LEARN TO ROW

The NRC operates Learn to Row (LTR) classes every spring, summer and fall, starting in April and ending in September.

The program consists of 8 two hour lessons. These will bring the average beginning rower to the point where they can comfortably row on their own in a racing shell.

We limit the class size to a maximum of eight people with one instructor, and tailor the class times to accommodate the schedules of the students. The on-the-water classes are always accompanied by the instructor in a coach boat, which carries any necessary safety gear.

Generally, we provide separate classes for Juniors (12 to 18 years) and adults (+ 18 years). The objective of the LTR program is to give the beginning rower sufficient skills so that they can enjoy the sport of recreational rowing without much additional tuition.

All instruction is done in racing shells, either in a Quad(four person boats) or Singles (one person). Confidence is more easily gained by rowing in a quad, which is where we start beginners. We have one recreational Single which is used to ease the transition to a Single as the students skill levels increase.

However for all students graduating from LTR who then join the NRC, we also provide an additional 4 two hour lessons free of charge in order to further develop their rowing skills on the water to the point that they can row independently with confidence.

For those Junior graduates who wish to go on to competitive or high performance rowing, we will provide additional coaching (see Junior Rowing).
